the room was huge and super clean. great location near the sugar cane train. it was cool to watch it in the morning. they had all we needed in the room. checking in was easy with the key left in a safe spot.

First off, the location is pretty convenient, right in the Sarina township, so you can easily explore the area. The hotel bistro served some really good meals – generous portions and tasty too, definitely a highlight of the visit. Oh, and trivia night was a lot of fun! Now, let’s talk about the not-so-great stuff. The mattress felt like sleeping on a rock, and those springs were not doing me any favors. I mean, I've never felt anything quite like it! The bathroom situation was pretty rough too; there was this stagnant water smell that just wouldn’t quit. I had to put a towel over the floor waste to deal with it. Talk about less than ideal! The pillows weren’t much better; they smelled like cigarettes. I couldn't tell if it was from the last guest or from the carpet that also had this awful smoke smell. And to top it off, I noticed mould in the bathroom tiles. Not exactly a welcoming sight. The whole room felt depressing too, painted this drab battleship grey. Noise was another thing. I knew being close to the highway might be loud, but the cane trains tooting their horns all through the night were just too much. I barely got any sleep. Oh, and there was this bottle shop nearby that made things even noisier. Now, let’s discuss the fridge situation. On the morning of my departure, I was dealing with melted cheese because the fridge was off. Turns out, someone had switched it off at the wall and I didn’t even notice it. That was a real bummer, especially since I had some nice cheese from the Atherton Tablelands that I was looking forward to enjoying. Apparently, the air conditioning wasn’t working properly in my initial room either, which meant a move to a different room. That one didn’t have many power points, so charging devices was a bit tricky. Plus, when I talked to the manager about noise issues from the hotel behind, she was pretty dismissive. Felt like she didn’t get that guests might not know the ins and outs of the place. Long story short, while there were some good aspects, the negatives really overshadowed the whole experience.

The kids loved taking the tour and learning how they make sugar. Afterward, we enjoyed tasting their delicious range of liqueurs and gourmet sauces, which was a fun experience for the whole family. My kids wished for more family-friendly activities at the hotel.
