We had the most incredible experience at this traditional ryokan. The wooden house with rice paper doors and sleeping on the floor made us feel like we were truly immersed in ancient Japan. The toasted rice tea was the best I've ever had, and waking up to the zen garden was truly breathtaking. The owner was friendly and made us feel at home. It's a must-do experience!

While sleeping on the floor can be challenging for your back, the overall experience outweighed any discomfort.

The traditional room was cozy and well-equipped. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The futons were comfortable and the Japanese bath was enjoyable. The Japanese breakfast was delicious and beautifully presented. The location was great and the interior garden was delightful.

The staff is very friendly. The breakfast is a traditional Japanese breakfast. There is good tea and new sweets everyday in your room. You have to share the bathroom with the other guests, which totally worked out fine for me, because I never met another guest. Very great location. If you like walking, the most important places of Kyoto are in walking distance!

Felt like treated like royalty, no complaint.

I had the opportunity to stay at a traditional Ryokan in Kyoto, and it was like stepping back in time to ancient Japan. The wooden house with rice paper doors, sleeping on the floor with a rice pillow, and having the original traditional Japanese cloth provided made for an authentic experience. The toasted rice tea was the best I've ever had, and waking up to the view of the zen garden was simply amazing. The location was perfect, close to the famous market, Gion area, and the river, with numerous nearby restaurants and shops. The owner, who speaks perfect English, went above and beyond to make me feel at home and even allowed me to leave my luggage early and late.

The location is great, close to the city center and within walking distance of many attractions. The rooms are spacious and comfortable with effective AC/heating units. The shared bathroom is clean and not too busy. The host is helpful and speaks English well. a pleasant and convenient stay.

We had a wonderful stay at a charming traditional inn in the heart of Kyoto. The room was spacious and had a calming atmosphere with tatami mats and paper sliding doors. The amenities were well-maintained, and the daily towel and toothbrush replacements were a nice touch. The location was perfect, close to the main shopping area and within walking distance of popular attractions. Despite a few minor downsides like traffic noise and thin pillows, we would highly recommend this lovely ryokan for an authentic Japanese experience. our stay was enjoyable and memorable.

Best aspects of our stay included the warm and cozy atmosphere of the ryokan. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and the traditional Japanese style breakfast served in our room was delicious. Another advantage was the comfortable futon beds, which provided a good night's sleep.

The only downside was the lack of heating in the room, which made it a bit cold on colder days. However, this added to the authentic experience of staying in a traditional machiya.

We stayed at a beautiful traditional ryokan in Kyoto's quiet backstreets. The owner, who spoke perfect English, was incredibly helpful and ensured we had a comfortable and authentic experience. The location was perfect for exploring Gion and accessing major attractions. we highly recommend staying at Inn Kawashima and would definitely return.

The value for the money spent at this traditional ryokan was excellent, and the room was cozy and comfortable. The location was perfect for exploring Kyoto, with many charming restaurants nearby. The staff at Inn Kawashima were exceptionally friendly and attentive to my needs.

The breakfast experience could be improved by including it in the room rate.
