We had an amazing stay at this mountain-side onsen near Kyoto. The best aspects were the cleanliness - everything was spotless and well-maintained, the location - nestled in the mountains north of the city, next to a beautiful river, and easily accessible via public transport from the city, and the breakfast - delicious and satisfying. The staff were also incredibly accommodating and friendly, making us feel welcome and taken care of throughout our stay.

We had our first ever onsen experience at Kurama Onsen and it was truly memorable. The staff, although limited in English, went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable and explain everything to us. The outdoor bathing area was particularly enchanting, especially when it started snowing. The large baths provided a tranquil and authentic experience. The hotel itself only had four rooms, giving it a cozy and intimate atmosphere. The scenic train ride to the onsen was an added bonus, making the journey just as enjoyable as the destination. it was a charming and authentic experience.

Free shuttle service from the train station was convenient and saved us the hassle of finding transportation. The staff was attentive and provided excellent service, even though they didn't speak much English. The food served was delicious, and we enjoyed trying new dishes during our stay.

The ryokan had two beautiful onsen, both with a range of toiletries. The meals were amazing, with dietary restrictions taken into consideration.
