We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of our room at Hotel Universal. It had all the amenities we needed and even a hairdryer, which is rare to find in this city. The 2pm checkout time was a great bonus, allowing us to relax before leaving. The hotel's location was also very convenient, with plenty of food and shops nearby. Additionally, the staff went above and beyond to help us when we were scammed by a taxi driver. Their kindness and quick action made us feel safe and supported, exceeding the service we have received at higher-priced hotels.

Wonderful folks, the owner Antonio was very helpful and fun to talk to. The King room was spacious and comfortable, with an ensuite bathroom. The cleaning service was impeccable and the towels smelled good. Despite some minor drawbacks like limited English channels on the TV and the distance to the nearest metro station, I would definitely recommend this hotel for its value for money. I had a great stay at Universal and would recommend it to budget solo travelers.

I recently stayed at a hotel in Mexico City and had a great experience. The staff at Universal were incredibly helpful and friendly. There was a younger gentleman who spoke English and provided excellent information about the transportation system. The hotel itself was clean and cheap, and the rooms were cleaned daily with fresh towels provided. The price for a week's stay was much better than other similar hotels. There were also convenient amenities nearby, such as a Walmart within a 30-minute walk and a Sanborns across the street where you could buy various items and enjoy good food. I would definitely consider staying at Universal again.

The hotel may look a bit run down from the outside, but don't let that fool you. The rooms are spacious and the bathrooms are impeccably clean. The WiFi is excellent, and the rooms are cleaned daily. The showers are nice and hot, and the beds are very comfortable. The double-glazed windows ensure minimal traffic noise, allowing for a peaceful night's sleep. A pleasant bonus is the complimentary water provided each day. There are also plenty of restaurants within a 5-minute walk. The Zocalo center is about a 30-minute walk away, or you can easily catch bus 18 right outside the hotel to get there and back.
