The location of the hotel was perfect, just a short walk to the city center but away from the traffic. I had a great budget accommodation experience at this property. The double room, although small, was perfectly fine considering the price. The hotel itself was clean and well-appointed, making it feel like a home away from home. The staff were lovely and friendly, creating a welcoming atmosphere. Despite the slight drawback of thin walls, the overall experience was positive. I would highly recommend this hotel for those looking for a budget-friendly and convenient place to stay in Hokitika. I had a great time and would not hesitate to return and use it as a base to explore the Coast.

As trekkers and a group of friends, we loved the convenient location of this cozy hotel. It was just a short, brisk walk from the town center and close to the bridge and walkway to sunset point, offering amazing views. The serviceable pub accommodation provided shared kitchenette and bathrooms, but what we really liked was having a sink in our room. it was a great base for our trekking adventures with everything we needed.

Stayed at Pioneer for a family trip and the manager made sure we had a wonderful time. The rooms were clean and well-equipped with TV, heater, and basin. The kitchen facilities were great and we loved the separate entrance from the bar/restaurant. The manager went above and beyond to make us comfortable, especially with our young kids. The food was amazing and the place was exceptionally clean. We couldn't hear any noise from the bar/restaurant and loved the quiet rooms. Can't imagine staying anywhere else in town now!

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel situated very close to the town centre. The rooms were clean and well presented, and the comfortable beds provided us with a great night's sleep. The hot showers were a big highlight, and we were impressed with the mini kitchenette in the hallway where we enjoyed our breakfast and coffee. The hotel's location also allowed us to easily access the nearby beach for some relaxing walks.

There was a not-so-fresh smell in the bedding and towels.

I just loved everything so much, I couldn't find anything to complain about!

I recently stayed at a hotel conveniently located near the town centre, making it easy to walk to the high street and explore the area. The refurbished rooms were modern, clean, warm, and comfortable, providing a great atmosphere for relaxation. The friendly and helpful staff made my stay even more enjoyable. the hotel offered a spacious common area with cutlery, plates, and a fridge for food storage.

The shared facilities, such as the toilets and showers, were not my preferred choice, however, considering the affordable price, it seemed fair enough.

The hotel, more like a bar with rooms to rent out in the back, provided a quiet and pleasant sleeping experience. the staff was friendly and even upgraded us to a bigger room when our lock was broken. We appreciated the provided towels, small kitchen, and fridge. the bathroom was clean and the walk to the sunset point was not too far. the owner was friendly and there were opportunities to socialize with locals at the bar. We highly recommend a stay at Pioneer for its central location, great breakfast, comfortable beds, and cleanliness.

It was so convenient being close to the town center. The hotel facilities were fantastic, including a kitchen and bar on site. The cleanliness was impeccable, with superclean rooms and a well-maintained bathroom. The beds were incredibly comfy, with electric blankets and plenty of pillows and blankets provided. The TV and wifi worked perfectly, which was a bonus. Parking was not an issue at all, with ample space available. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout my stay. I highly recommend this hotel.

Loved the cozy and homely vibe of this family-owned hotel. The classic West Coast cuisine at the restaurant was a delicious treat. The accommodation section was like a time-travel experience, taking me back to 1866.

Just the delightful absence of any modern amenities. Who needs a kettle in their room anyway?

We had a marvelous stay at Pioneer. the hotel owners and staff were very friendly and welcoming. Our room, number 7, was clean, tidy, and warm. the bar was also very friendly, and we enjoyed the delicious food. the garden bar was lovely and it was only a short walk to town. the fact that there were shared bathrooms was not an issue for us. We would definitely stay here again and recommend it to our family and friends.

As a group of friends, we loved the spacious and recently refurbished rooms equipped with sinks and fridges. The shared bathrooms were clean and the showers were great. The kitchen was well-equipped and the instant hot water tap was a plus. The pub's location close to the city center was convenient, and we enjoyed the delicious steaks they served. Parking was not an issue, with plenty of space available. this was the best place we stayed at during our trip around the South Island.
