As a woman traveling alone, Stewart Island Backpackers in Half-moon Bay was the perfect choice for me. The location was ideal, being near the pub and within walking distance of the ferry terminal. It was very convenient to have everything in Oban close by. The rooms were clean and cozy, with comfortable beds and a warm atmosphere. The staff were friendly and accommodating, making me feel welcome. The facilities, such as the laundry with new machines and the shared kitchen, were well-maintained and easy to use. the backpackers provided a great experience on this amazing island.

The wifi was a bit sketchy at times for me as a lone traveler.

We had a great stay at this hostel on Stewart Island. The mix of ages staying here was perfect, with a good range from kids to people in their 70s. The kitchen was clean and well-stocked with utensils. The addition of herbs was a nice touch. The owners were friendly and obliging, and the staff were very helpful. The facilities were top-notch, with plenty of toilets, a great kitchen, and a comfortable lounge with games and a pool table. It was a fantastic place to meet other travelers and served as a great base for exploring the island.

There was nothing I didn't like about our stay at the hostel. 👍

Great value for money! This hotel is perfect for budget travelers. The rooms are tidy and clean, with comfortable beds and small windows that can be easily fully opened. The hotel is located near the ferry terminal, making it easy to access the village. We enjoyed the attention to detail, such as the interesting books and puzzles in the common room. Additionally, the staff was friendly and provided us with extra blankets when we asked.

I had a wonderful stay at Stewart Island Backpackers. The location was ideal, just a short walk to the pier and supermarket. I even spotted wild kiwis near the rugby field close by. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout my stay. The kitchen, although a bit old, was kept clean and had all the necessary utensils. The common rooms were spacious and provided a comfortable place to relax. I highly recommend this budget-friendly accommodation for a great experience on Stewart Island.

They had everything we needed, including a rice cooker and slow cooker! the location was perfect for exploring the island - we were close to all the hiking trails and the beach. the free exchange programs for clothes and hiking equipment were a nice touch. We even got to borrow kiwi spotting gear!

Our room was a bit chilly, and there weren't enough plugs for all of our devices. some of the other guests were quite noisy in the morning and evening, so earplugs are a must if you want a good night's sleep.

I had a really super nice stay at this hotel on Stewart Island. the location was great as it was just a short walk from the ferry, making it really convenient. Secondly, the staff were friendly and helpful, giving me lots of information about the island and even recommending a book where I could learn about kiwi spotting. Lastly, the rooms were a good size and had everything I needed, including basic amenities and a comfortable bed.

The rooms are cozy and comfortable with heating, ample blankets, and a clean environment. The shared walkways between rooms and common areas allow for a refreshing breeze, adding to the overall pleasant atmosphere. The attention to detail is evident, with a smart layout, thoughtful recycling systems, and even a provision for reusing gas canisters. The staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful, ensuring a great experience for guests.

The lounges were comfortable and never overcrowded, providing a relaxing place to watch TV, read, or play games. Additionally, the hotel had multiple lounges, which was a bonus.

We loved the idea of the kiwi notebook, where sightings were recorded for others to experience the same. Additionally, the provision of a dedicated storage area for backpacks on the last day was convenient and thoughtful. Another highlight was the inclusion of herbs, enhancing the cooking experience in the well-organized kitchen. The mix of guests, ranging from kids to older adults, created a vibrant atmosphere.

While our overall experience was positive, there were a few minor drawbacks. The room we stayed in felt a bit tight, leaving limited space for our bags.
