The location is great, a good base for travelling around. The room is quite rustic but comfortable with a surprisingly comfortable bed. The library where breakfast is served is interesting. The owner is informative and helpful, sharing the history of the place and giving tours. The hot tub is a lovely addition for star gazing.

Steep bed entry in the Lady Maxwell Room was a bit challenging for night-time bathroom visits.

The free parking and WiFi were a nice touch, although the in-house restaurant left much to be desired. The towels and bed linen were available for breakfast, but I couldn't resist taking a dip in the hot tub instead. Caerlaverock Castle being 37 km away was such a disappointment.

I had an absolutely delightful stay at Buittle Castle in the Lady Maxwell Room. the Castle Manager, Tim, was incredibly welcoming and attentive throughout my stay. the room itself was well-equipped and comfortable, with a lovely shower room and a comfortable bed. the highlight of my stay was spending Christmas Eve in the lantern-lit hot tub under the night sky, it was a truly wonderful experience. the setting of the castle was stunning, with exquisite views of deer, peacocks, ducks, and horses in the well-kept grounds. the breakfast served in the library was superb, with endless coffee, toast, fruit, and a full Scottish breakfast. I loved every second of my stay at Buittle Castle and it was exceptional value for money. I can't wait to come back in the future.

I had an exquisite and decadent stay at a stunning location with superb hosts who were the epitome of perfect gentlemen. The Lady Maxwell Room at Buittle Castle was absolutely stunning with breathtaking views of the well-kept grounds, where I spotted deer, peacocks, ducks. The hosts, James and Tobias, were attentive and served us a superb breakfast in the library, which felt like the ultimate decadence. I also enjoyed the hot tub on the terrace, overlooking the fields and listening to the horses whinnying. It was the perfect relaxation getaway, away from TV and urban life. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and I slept better than I had in a long time. Everything was well-thought-out, right down to the complimentary toiletries presented in a decadent manner. The William Morris decor and Heraldic nods added to the overall charm. If you love wildlife and history, this is the perfect place to stay. Buittle Castle has a unique charm with its castle, ruins, and frolicking Galloway "Belties" in the nearby fields. I highly recommend this hotel for its exceptional experience.
