I had an amazing stay at a hidden gem nestled along a beautiful river. The setting was like a luxury resort and the dorms were clean and comfortable. Although the showers sometimes lacked warm water, the area to chill by the river or in the hammocks more than made up for it. Plus, there were plenty of cheap restaurants nearby. I highly recommend this place for a relaxing getaway.

The room was spacious and the hotel itself was beautiful, especially the spot by the river where we had breakfast and relaxed in the evenings. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, and we booked an amazing tour to semuc champey through them.

The hostel's location next to the river allows for fun activities like swinging off the rope swing and night-time swimming with lights. The 10-bed dorm is spacious with comfortable beds, lockers, and plenty of power points. The bathrooms are always clean, and the staff is friendly. The hostel offers various amenities like a pool table, ping pong table, and even Mario Kart. The dinners and breakfasts are delicious, and the hostel provides a great atmosphere for socializing and meeting new people. Highly recommended.

I recently stayed at El Retiro in Lanquin for a few days and had a wonderful experience. The bungalows and surrounding plants were charming, and we enjoyed relaxing on the hammocks while watching the turkeys. The swimming hole area provided a perfect way to cool off on hot days. Although WiFi was only available at the restaurant, it worked well. The staff was helpful and responsive, and the buffet dinners were generous. The location next to the river was peaceful, and we loved waking up to the sounds of birds. a great place to stay!

I had an incredible stay at this hotel. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, organizing amazing tours for me. The room was fantastic, with a spacious layout and even a hammock outside. I really appreciated the storage space and the comfortable bed. The hotel's location on the river was absolutely breathtaking. It provided a peaceful and serene atmosphere, perfect for relaxation. The restaurant was another highlight, offering delicious food at a great price. I was particularly happy with the vegan options available. Although the wifi was only available at the restaurant, it was strong enough for me to get some work done while enjoying a meal.

There were some negative aspects to our stay. Our room had a leaking bathroom and the fan was incredibly loud.

After 2 months of travelling, this has been our favorite hostel to date! Lovely river you can swim in, peaceful retreat yet social, not noisy at night/morning, tasty meals, no food poisoning issues. Extended a day, chilled by the river and bar, had the place nearly to ourselves. Pool table, table tennis, cheap laundry service. Great location, spacious dorms, lockers, mosquito nets, vegan-friendly food. Hostel-run tour through Semuc Champay was the best.

I stayed at El Retiro for a few days to visit Semuc Champey. The staff arranged transportation to and from various destinations, making it convenient. The hotel has a large area with ping pong, snooker, games, a cocktail bar, and food. The location by the river is beautiful, and the beds were comfortable. The atmosphere felt like a luxury resort, with hammocks by the riverside. The price of the dorm was great, considering the amenities provided. a great place to stay in Lanquin.

Great riverfront location with beautiful gardens. Enjoyed hanging out with other guests and staff by the river. Rooms were nice and had hot water. AC was a bonus. Dogs had a blast playing and cooling off in the river. Highly recommended!

The cleanliness of the bathrooms was a major issue, with many being unclean and showers often being cold. Another downside was the lack of organization when assigning beds, which caused inconvenience for guests.
