The location of this ryokan is perfect, right across the river from the charming morning market and the "black" old town streets. It is conveniently situated in the centre of town, allowing easy access to all the major attractions. The rooms are comfortable and beautifully decorated with traditional Japanese antiques, providing an authentic experience. The friendly staff ensure that guests are well taken care of, offering a delicious breakfast and providing hot tea and snacks in the afternoon.

The only drawback is that the central heating in the main hallways and bathrooms could be improved, especially during the colder months.

our best stay in takayama yet! the genuine, warm hospitality at sumiyoshi ryokan exceeded our expectations. the large, beautiful room with comfy futons, the perfect location, and the kind older lady who treated our son like family made our stay unforgettable.
