We recently had the pleasure of staying at a charming ryokan outside Takayama, and it was a hidden paradise! The grounds were absolutely stunning, with a scenic river flowing nearby. Our room was spacious and had breathtaking views of the river. The highlight of our stay was the incredible dining experience. We indulged in a 12-course menu that was prepared and presented with meticulous detail. It was a true kaiseki feast! The onsen baths were a heavenly retreat, especially the one nestled in a cave with hot and cold water. The staff were delightful and made us feel warmly welcomed throughout our stay. The breakfast was also a treat, with a wide selection of delicious dishes. Despite some minor drawbacks, such as the chilly sitting room and the language barrier, the overall experience was unforgettable. We highly recommend this ryokan to anyone seeking a truly magical retreat outside of Takayama. we would definitely recommend this ryokan for a truly remarkable stay.

The villa is not old-fashioned, but rather designed to have a rustic charm. The half-board option is highly recommended as Chef Kakuta Yamato prepares exquisite and aesthetically pleasing meals. The cheerful and attentive waitress-host, Aoki Rin, creates a welcoming atmosphere. The warm fireplace at the reception is calming, and the warm sake served by the elderly staff adds to the cozy experience.

The room was too small for three people and the mattress was uncomfortable. the hot spring facilities were lacking and in need of better maintenance.

The excellent blend of traditional and modern elements, deliciously plated meals, pleasant baths, unbeatable location next to a snow-covered forest stream.

The Sake by the Fire experience was truly authentic and not crowded at all. a wonderful and unique experience.

The grounds were equally stunning, especially with the winter snow. this was our best stay during our holiday, and definitely worth a visit.
