Large outdoor onsen with rock pools and 4 private onsens, all free for hotel guests. Friendly staff, delicious kaiseki meals for dinner and breakfast. Easy access to other sites in the area and free shuttles to Hongu Taisha and Shirahama.

The hot springs were nice and relaxing, and the meals offered were tasty. the hotel's location was convenient for exploring the area, and the shuttle service provided to the nearby trails made it easy to get around. Plus, the staff was approachable and provided excellent service.

The rooms themselves were quite outdated and a bit drafty. the furnishings and common areas were starting to show their age and could benefit from some updates.

I had a wonderful experience at Watarase Onsen Hotel Yamayuri. The private hot spring bath was truly traditional and relaxing, and the staff was attentive to my needs. The hotel even quickly accommodated a room change when I mentioned a smell issue. I highly recommend this hotel for a relaxing onsen trip.

The private onsens were amazing, with a variety to choose from. The kaiseki dinner and breakfast was fabulous, with exceptional quality and presentation. The manager at the front desk was very accommodating and helpful. Great base for exploring Kumano Kodo.

Can honestly say there wasn't anything not to like.

I based myself at a lovely hotel between two 35-kilometer hiking trails in the Hongu area. Surrounded by mountains, the hotel sits in a tranquil location down a hill. The room was a bit outdated, but the kaiseki dinner and breakfast were fabulous. The hotel also offered private onsens, which were a relaxing and mind-cleansing experience. The manager at the front desk went out of his way to accommodate our needs.

The facilities could use some updating to match the beautiful surroundings.
