the owner, Shehan, was incredibly helpful and offered great recommendations for dining and sightseeing. the beds were comfortable, and the location was ideal, close to public transport. Free tea/coffee, water, and a hot shower were much appreciated. Shehan's positive attitude was infectious, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. the hostel also organized tours, including a fantastic cooking class.

Can recommend this hotel.

From the moment I entered Downtown Hostel, I felt warmly welcomed by Shehan and his family. the cooking class was a delightful experience, offering a taste of local cuisine and a chance to bond with fellow travelers. the spacious dorms, comfy bedding, and hot showers added to the inviting atmosphere. the central location, cleanliness, and helpful owner make this hostel a top choice in Sri Lanka.

No mosquito nets, poor WiFi.

Wonderful experience for solo travellers

The hostel provided a fantastic atmosphere for solo travellers, offering plenty of opportunities to socialize with fellow guests. the owner was extremely welcoming and organized various activities and tours to make guests feel included. the facilities were top-notch, with clean rooms, daily cleaning, reliable wifi, and hot water always available. the location was ideal, just a short walk away from restaurants, supermarkets, and beautiful hiking spots. Improvement: Would benefit from having mosquito nets or better protection against insects.

We had a fantastic stay at Down Town Hostel. The dorm rooms were spacious and the beds were incredibly comfortable. The bathroom was spotless, thanks to the daily cleaning. The location was perfect, just off the main road, so we didn't have to deal with noise. The breakfast was delicious and cooked fresh in front of us. The free tea and coffee all day was a great bonus. The hostel had a really sociable atmosphere, with lots of activities and tours to choose from. The owner was incredibly informative and went above and beyond to ensure everyone had a great time in Ella. I highly recommend Down Town Hostel for a wonderful stay in Ella.

The owner Shehan hooked us up with epic eats and cool spots to check out. Beds were cozy with curtains, lights, and plugs. Perfect location near bars and restaurants, plus easy access to the train station and must-visit spots like Nine Arch Bridge and Little Adam's Peak.

We wished for more lively late-night vibes for young party animals like us to turn up the nights.
