The hotel's unique and eco-friendly container-style cabins were a memorable experience surrounded by lush jungle vegetation. the staff was friendly and organized a serene and tranquil river cruise. the location was ideal, within a short distance to Wilpattu National Park for a full-day wildlife safari.

The lack of air conditioning and WiFi made for a stuffy, uncomfortable stay in the cabins during the hot and humid season. the jungle's lively and loud nighttime ambiance made it difficult to get restful sleep.

I had an absolutely wonderful and totally unique experience at Backwaters. The location was amazing, nestled in the low scrub forest of Wilpattu and right on the waters edge with abundant birdlife. The accommodation was truly unique, with detached bungalows made from shipping containers perched high up in the tree canopy. The rooms were comfortable and well-equipped, and the meals at the covered terrace were delicious. The owner, Tarique, was always available and ensured that I was well taken care of. I highly recommend Backwaters to everyone.
