We had a very comfortable stay at a lower midrange hotel near the train station in Hualien. The bed was cozy and the room was well organized, although a few more power points would have been helpful. We were pleasantly surprised by the complimentary snacks and drinks in the room. The staff was welcoming and offered a variety of tour options. We also appreciated the free bicycle rentals, although the restriction on using them after rain was a bit odd. Despite a minor issue with smoking fumes from a neighboring room, the night staff was accommodating and eventually offered us a room change.
