We stayed in Room "Stag" which exceeded our expectations; it was incredibly spacious, with two single beds, a double bed, a table, and a sink area. the location of the hotel is ideal, nestled in a very quiet and peaceful area, perfect for a stop during our Coast to Coast walk. the cleanliness was impressive, and the breakfast served was absolutely delicious. the staff were extremely friendly and efficient, making us feel at home.

Not obvious to find; navigation may pose a slight challenge.

Attending a business symposium, I appreciated the lovely couple running the hotel. Their warmth added to the comfortable ambiance. I look forward to returning for the evening meals based on positive guest feedback.

The location of this hotel is stunning, with an excellent choice of walks right from the front door, and the added convenience of a wonderful bus service. The bedrooms are large and comfortable, and some even offer breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside. The dining experience at this hotel is truly gourmet quality, with delicious four-course breakfasts and plenty to eat. The service is superb and the quality of the food is top-notch.

We loved dining with other guests and enjoyed the friendly and attentive service. Nigel, our host, made us feel incredibly welcome. The availability of packed lunches, snacks, and drinks was an added bonus. The peacefulness of the location ensured a great night's sleep, making it an ideal choice for walking the Cumbria Way. Despite a minor inconvenience of no evening meal on a Tuesday, we discovered a great alternative nearby. The sociable breakfast and the convenience of a bus stop right outside the accommodation added to the overall positive experience. We'll definitely recommend this place to others.

The hotel offers excellent value for money, with reasonable prices for a stay in the beautiful Borrowdale valley. The attention to detail is noteworthy, with Trish's scrummy homemade cake awaiting guests on their return from walks. The rooms provide a lovely view of the surrounding countryside, and the presence of a bath adds an extra touch of luxury. The breakfast served is also delicious and satisfying.

The meals were consistently high quality, offering a great value for a 5-course dinner. The breakfasts were hot, tasty, and exceptional. The dining room layout, with long tables, created a collegial atmosphere, encouraging conversations and the potential for future friendships. The newly refurbished bathrooms were a big improvement, and even the bedrooms without ensuite had exclusive bathrooms just across the landing, making it very convenient. The garden was beautifully planted, providing a perfect spot to relax on warm summer evenings. The house itself was cozy and weatherproof due to the new windows. The beds were comfortable with just the right mattresses, ensuring a pleasant night's sleep. The honesty bar was well stocked with excellent local draft beer. Nigel, the manager, was a great host, and the communal dining provided a social and enjoyable experience.

We recently had a wonderful Christmas stay in a charming and historic guest house nestled in the heart of the stunning Lake District. the location was perfect, with fantastic walking trails right on our doorstep and breathtaking views at every turn. We were warmly welcomed by our hosts, who made us feel right at home. the food was outstanding – from hearty breakfasts to delicious dinners cooked with locally sourced ingredients.

the room door lock was broken, which made us feel a bit uneasy about leaving our belongings unattended. While the overall experience was lovely, the price did seem a bit steep for what was offered.

the bedrooms were gorgeous, with cozy bedspreads and fluffy carpets that added to the warm atmosphere. the lounge with a lit fire in the evenings was such a welcoming feature. the staff were incredibly friendly, and guests could relax in the lounge wearing slippers or walking boot socks. the homemade cakes were a delicious treat at just £2 a slice. the breakfast conversations with other guests were great fun, and the option to prebook a four-course dinner, including a mouthwatering oven baked raspberry cheesecake, was a highlight. the property is conveniently close to Buttermere and Keswick, offering easy access to beautiful scenery alongside Derwentwater.
