We had a wonderful stay at Gougane Barra. the hotel staff made us feel very welcome and the old-fashioned retro feel of the hotel was charming. the surrounding countryside, with its serene lake and lovely hillside views, was exceptional. We enjoyed exploring the glen and going for walks in the forest park. the food and wine at the hotel were superb, with a delicious and well-presented menu that changed daily. We highly recommend trying Katy's Fancy Fish dish and the interesting selection of wines and cocktails.

We were disappointed that we weren't informed upon check-in that we needed to book the complimentary rowing boat in advance. It would have been nice to know beforehand so we could have made arrangements.

Limited activities: Unfortunately, we were disappointed with the lack of available activities during our stay. the complimentary rowing boat on the adjacent lake was already booked for the next few hours, and we were not informed about the need to book in advance.
