The location was super, just next to the canal, with a great breakfast spread, one of the best I’ve had in years!

The room amenities were dated, lacking complimentary water, and our front desk experience was not helpful with parking instructions.

Hotel Sonia Otaru has an ideal location just steps from the Otaru Canal, where I enjoyed delightful local dining and took scenic canal cruises. The hot springs on-site were a welcome surprise, providing a perfect end to long days exploring. The breakfast spread was outstanding, featuring delicious grilled salmon and an impressive selection of local dishes.

I found the parking a bit tricky to navigate initially. While they had spaces available, it was a little confusing to figure out how to reserve one. Also, the staff at the front desk appeared overwhelmed during peak hours, which caused minor delays during check-in. If you arrive when they are busy, be prepared for a wait.

The location is superb overlooking the canal, and the staff was incredibly helpful with dinner reservations and even called the taxi company for me. The breakfast was one of the best I've had in Japan!

The breakfast selection could use a little more variety, and the room could have used a second pillow for comfort.

Had an awesome time with friends! The rooms were clean and had a great view of the canal. If you're up for activities, check out the Shin Nihonkai Ferry and Sasson Golf Club. Parking is limited, but there's a public lot close by. Definitely recommend this place!

We faced an unexpected extra charge for using the public bath, which we didn't even plan to use. Keep that in mind when budgeting!

the location of sonia was amazing, just a short stroll to the canal. our standard twin room b had a nice view, and the filtered coffee next door was delightful. the concierge staff were super helpful, which made our stay even better.

The location is fab—strolling to the canal and nearby markets was a delight. The hotel has decent facilities. Parking arranged for my car, which was a lifesaver. Rooms were clean and comfy enough for a cozy stay.

But honestly, the breakfast was as creative as my cat’s dance moves—same thing every day? And who needs a balcony when shoveling snow off it becomes your morning workout?
