our romantic weekend in shimoda exceeded expectations. ogawa ryokan's friendly staff, modern amenities, and convenient location near the beach and train station made our stay unforgettable.

Lack of clear parking instructions.

Clean room with all necessary amenities. Laundry room and onsen available. Conveniently located near a park and fish market. The cleverly designed small room felt cozy and not cramped. Helpful English-speaking staff.

The hotel has a modern and traditional mix, and the lobby is welcoming. The rooms are clean, spacious, and have private restrooms. The hotel location makes it easy to walk to local attractions and restaurants.

The outside noise level can be high and disruptive to a restful night’s sleep. Although earplugs were provided, they did not seem to be enough.

The rooms at Ogawa Ryokan were pleasantly clean and spacious, providing a comfortable stay. We particularly enjoyed the convenience of having coffee and smoothies from The Black Ship right at our doorstep. The location was fantastic, being just a short drive away from three beautiful beaches. The attention to detail was commendable, with thoughtful amenities such as earplugs and tea and biscuits. Having a room with a private bathroom was definitely a plus.

The hotel is conveniently located next to the port area, making it easy to explore the fish market and enjoy the coastal atmosphere. It is also very close to the beach, which is just as beautiful as it appears in the photos. The rooms are spacious and bright, offering a comfortable seating area and large windows with a great view. Some rooms even have shoji screens, giving the property a stylish and airy feel. The hotel offers facilities such as a private onsen and bicycles for hire, allowing guests to relax and explore the hilly surroundings.

Some guests have mentioned that the bathroom area in the room had a hanging lamp that was a bit low and hard, causing them to hit their heads. However, this seems to be a minor issue that can easily be fixed by raising the lamp slightly.

Renovated 3 years ago, extremely clean, modern stylish hotel with Japanese charm. Helpful owner with excellent local tips. Superb WiFi and free parking. Affordable compared to others.

Cannot find any fault.

This hotel offers great value for money with its reasonable prices and attention to detail. The location is fantastic, with plenty of restaurant options nearby. The staff provide excellent service and the rooms have an authentic feel with a Japanese touch. The private bathrooms are a great addition, offering convenience and comfort. The breakfast here is also worth mentioning, with a delicious selection of dishes to start your day.
