Indoor and outdoor onsen with Shiseido amenities, proximity to the nine outdoor onsens nearby, charming traditional architecture reflecting the Edo period.

A public bathroom situation for showers feels beneath the price point!!! The hotel could consider offering a shower option in the rooms for more privacy, making it more suitable for those who prefer that convenience!!!

During my stay at Sakaeya, I enjoyed the luxurious private onsen experience which provided a delightfully serene atmosphere. The staff went above and beyond, attending to my needs with grace and ensuring I experienced the local culture through delicious kaiseki meals presented beautifully. The breakfast was a delightful selection of local delicacies served in a private room, enhancing my experience in Japan. The attention to detail was remarkable, from the beautifully decorated hallways to the extremely comfortable tatami room, making each moment special.

I didn't find any negatives during my stay.

It was just a good match for a weekend excursion in Yamanouchi (Nagano) with all in all brilliant value for money. The indoor and outdoor hot spring baths were really comfortable and made for a relaxing experience after a long day. Be sure to try the kaiseki dinner for a unique taste of local cuisine.

Our stay at Sakaeya was like winning the hospitality lottery! The private onsen in our room felt like stepping into a serene water paradise, and the dining experience was a culinary journey through Japan's finest flavors—every dish was crafted with the freshest local ingredients. Even the room's attention to detail—from the colorful yukatas to the relaxing music playing through the CD player—added to the magic of our visit. We even had our own private banquet room for dinner, making us feel like royalty for a night!

Sakaeya in Shibu Onsen offers excellent hospitality, making it great for families. The staff were accommodating, especially with meal preferences for kids, and the private dining experience was enjoyable. While the outdoor onsen was under renovation during my stay, they provided thoughtful compensations. A clear layout of additional meal costs during check-in would improve the experience.

We stayed in a Japanese-Style Superior Quadruple Room with air conditioning and a private bathroom. The indoor and outdoor onsen were amazing. We had yukata. Dinner was a kaiseki feast, super delicious! Lots of local ingredients, and the apple juice was a must.

had an amazin stay at sakaeya! the room was super spacious and cozy, perfect for our family. loved the private onsens and the food was simply delicious, especially the traditional breakfast. the staff was super friendly and made us feel like royalty! the yukatas were a nice touch for exploring the area too!

only downside was that the dinner options were kinda limited and the walls were a bit thin, so noises from the hallway were noticeable.
