The floor mattresses were a letdown and not what we expected!!! It would be nice to have chairs or seating in the room rather than just empty space with folded mattresses!!! Also, a leaky pipe on the balcony should be fixed!!!

Great location for exploring Kyoto's attractions.

The tatami beds were extremely uncomfortable, making it difficult to get a good night's sleep. Even with a double mattress, it felt more like sleeping on the floor. Additionally, there was a strange smell from the tatami that was quite off-putting, despite the hotel providing diffusers to mask it. Overall, the experience felt lackluster, with details that could have significantly improved our stay evidently overlooked.

Balcony was perfect for evening relaxation.

The staff here are incredibly lovely and helpful, which made communication a breeze. The location is superb, with a bus stop right outside and easy access to dining options. Unfortunately, the room didn't quite live up to expectations, showing signs of wear that the recent renovations didn't fix. A mixed experience, but worth considering for the staff and location.

The Essential tatami room was sparkling clean and surprisingly quiet, enhancing the overall comfort of the stay. The strong hot shower and the choice of two pillow types added to the relaxation after exploring the area. The friendly staff were a highlight, providing umbrellas during a downpour. However, navigating the QR code check-in could be challenging, and the absence of daily room cleaning was a downside. The proximity to local eateries and convenience stores was a definite plus, making it easy to immerse in the local culture.

Request an air purifier upon check-in if you're sensitive to smells. it helps if the tatami mats have a lingering scent.

The room was spacious as, but the thin walls meant we could hear our neighbors bickering. Staff were super friendly and helpful, though! Chur for that!

The tatami room was cozy with comfy futons, and I really enjoyed the self-service laundry option. However, the air conditioning was tricky to figure out. I'd stay again!

It was just a smart choice for a couple of nights in Kyoto with very good value for money. The location was convenient, making it easy to explore the city and grab food nearby. Be prepared for limited bathroom space if you're traveling with more than one person.

the wayfarer kyoto shijo is ideally situated for exploring the city. close to attractions like the international manga museum and several temples. the staff are exceptional, always ready to assist and fluent in english.
