As foreign tourists, we loved the helpfulness of the hosts, superb location on loch Indaal, and the perfectly maintained dining hall and lodge. The hosts also assisted us in finding alternative options for dining when the Pot Charlotte restaurants were fully booked. The beach nearby was a great place for morning walks, and the Port Charlotte Hotel was a nice spot to enjoy a dram of scotch in the evening. The staff was cordial and available to help us with any issues, such as finding a way out during cancelled ferries. The cleanliness of all areas, including the bathrooms, was impressive. The modern shower and spacious kitchen were also highlights. We truly felt a connection with Islay and the hostel during our stay.

Felt incredibly welcome, as the owners and staff went above and beyond to assist us. Nothing was too much trouble for them.

The location was a bit out of the way if you wanted to visit most of the distilleries on Islay, so it's important to plan ahead, especially if you don't have a car. Additionally, there was a slight unpleasant smell in the women's toilets, although they were clean and well-maintained.

It's worth mentioning that the room for three people was quite cramped, and the top bunk had a low beam which could lead to head injuries. The limited access to the room, toilets, and kitchen during cleaning hours was a slight inconvenience, but the lounge was available for use.
