I had the best experience staying at this hidden gem on the east coast of Big Island. The hosts were incredibly friendly and provided us with great tips and recommendations for exploring the area. The views from the house were simply breathtaking, with a beautiful ocean view and a lush jungle surrounding the property. The natural sounds of the wildlife at night made for a peaceful and restful sleep. Plus, the option of taking a shower outside with the Hawaiian breeze was a unique and enjoyable experience.

The only minor issue I encountered was with the curtains in my room, as the zipper to close them was broken. However, this was easily solved by crossing the drapes and propping a chair against them to keep them closed.

The property offers cozy accommodations with beautiful views, hammocks in the cabanas, clean shared bathrooms, and a laid-back atmosphere. The manager, Robbie, is approachable and helpful. The property is located near breakfast places, including Hilo Shark Coffee. Getting to the property may be a bit challenging, but the secluded and calm setting is rewarding.

Lovely shared lounge, where I had such a blast listening to strangers' boring stories. The other half of the duplex was occupied, which made sneaking around extra fun. Downtown Hilo is a short drive away, but don't worry, you'll still have a good long walk to the property.

the accommodations were quite cramped. The cabin we stayed in was small and we had to ask each other to leave the room whenever one of us needed to use the toilet or shower.

The availability of hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes in common areas was a good precaution. The property itself is beautifully presented, surrounded by lush tropical greenery, fruit trees, and even a waterfall/swim area. The open-air shower and cute cabanas were a nice touch. The views of the ocean and sunset were absolute picturesque. The owners and staff were friendly and provided helpful information about the Big Island. Meeting other friendly guests from all over was a bonus. Hamakua House is the perfect eco-friendly lodging for anyone looking for an off-the-grid experience.
