I traveled solo to Puerto Viejo and stayed at La Ruka for 3.5 weeks. The staff was amazing and the shared kitchen was a nice touch. We all had a memorable New Year's Eve dinner together. The $5 bike rental was convenient, and the location perfectly situated between town and the beach. The owner Dani was awesome and the resident dogs added so much joy to my stay. La Ruka truly felt like my home away from home.

My stay at this hostel was absolutely mind-blowing! The communal area was super cozy and perfect for having great chats with other travelers. The bunk bed, although I was unlucky to get the only one, was surprisingly comfy. The big kitchen was a plus, and having lockers provided added an extra layer of security. I also loved the fact that bike rental was available for only $5, making it easy to explore the beautiful beaches in the area. And I can't forget to mention the lovely and helpful staff members who made my stay even more enjoyable.

Great location, close to the ocean and away from crowds. The reception area is nice and the lady who owns the hostel is lovely and helpful. They offer bike rental at a reasonable price. The chill and positive vibe of the hostel is inviting and most people end up extending their stay.

The dorm room felt claustrophobic, hot, and lacked natural light. The price for the dorm was expensive considering the quality.

I stayed at La Ruka for a week and it was an incredible experience. The hostel is spacious with numerous cozy spots and hammocks scattered throughout. The staff are friendly and helpful, making my stay even more enjoyable. They offer free morning classes, a great way to meet people and learn new skills. The ice bath was a unique and refreshing experience. The comfortable mattress and pillows, clean bathrooms, and open communal kitchen with free bananas were all added bonuses. The location is ideal for exploring the stunning beaches of the south Caribbean. La Ruka truly felt like a home away from home.

During my solo trip, I had a fabulous stay at this hostel. The Pacuare Dorm was not only clean but also had a bathroom that was meticulously cleaned every day. The outside kitchen, known as the Smoke Shack, provided a unique gathering spot. The staff was incredibly helpful and went above and beyond, even assisting me with my bags. The beautiful backyard was home to friendly dogs and the chance to spot sloths. The common spaces were well-maintained and the option to rent bikes and book excursions was convenient.

It would have been helpful to have individual bed lights in the dorm, and more plugs near the beds for easy access.

I met lots of good people and had a great time socializing. the open kitchen was a fantastic feature, allowing me to cook my own meals. the location was perfect, situated between town and the beach. It was easy to explore both areas without having to travel far.

The cleanliness of the hostel could have been better. the bed sheets had stains and the shared bathrooms were not well-maintained.
