I recently stayed at Gion Ryokan Karaku for a few days, and it was a fantastic experience. The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly, going above and beyond to assist us with restaurant reservations and suggesting amazing dining options. The traditional tatami room with a separate section for a water cooker and refrigerator was a unique touch. The breakfast, which included a delicious Bento box, was a highlight of our stay. The location in the quiet Gion area was perfect, with easy access to bus stops and the Keihan railway. The hotel also had a clean and spacious sentou, or public bath, for guests to enjoy.

During our Christmas stay, we loved the traditional Japanese room with its comfortable futons and low table. the staff were friendly and helpful, offering recommendations for places to visit and assisting with train schedules. the location was fantastic, right in the heart of the historic district and within walking distance of many sights and restaurants. We also enjoyed the onsen facilities, a perfect way to relax after a day of exploring.

There were a few drawbacks to note. there was no wifi reception in our room, which was a bit inconvenient.

We absolutely loved our stay at this luxurious 4-star hotel in Gion. The location was fantastic, surrounded by enchanting quaint houses, shops, and shrines on a very quiet street. The staff here were amazing, going above-and-beyond to provide exceptional service. From helping with our heavy luggage to providing umbrellas by the door, their hospitality was truly top-notch.

The food was fresh and superb, and the waitress who served us was incredibly sweet, despite her limited English. The room itself was clean and spacious, with its own bathroom and shower.

While the breakfast was fully traditional, it would have been nice to have some tourist-friendly options available. Additionally, the lack of laundry service was a minor inconvenience, and the wifi reception in the room was weak.

The ryokan offers a traditional room and an excellent Ryokan restaurant with a very good course dinner. Conveniently located near popular historic sites and restaurants in the downtown district. Also, the staff were friendly and accommodating, even staying open late for us during a delayed arrival.
