I absolutely loved the history and quirkiness of this hotel. From the worn spiral staircase to the ancient secret door in my room, it was full of character. Despite the "faulty towers" attitude, I found the room to be clean and the bed comfortable. The hotel's location was perfect, with a bus stop and the bus station just a short walk away. I also appreciated the proximity to the local High Street, restaurants, and shops. The in-house restaurant, Rugantino, served delicious English and Italian cuisine. The staff were all pleasant and helpful, and the view of Wells Cathedral from my bedroom was simply inspiring. For those keeping budget, the price was more than reasonable for what I received.

The location of the hotel is perfect, right in the heart of Wells. It is directly opposite the stunning cathedral and just off the main street. The room itself was lovely, with a beautiful view of the cathedral. The breakfast served was delicious and the staff were friendly. Additionally, the hotel is conveniently located near various restaurants and pubs.

Our room had a wonderful view of the cathedral, making for a truly memorable stay. The food at Rugantino Restaurant was delicious, and the staff were charming and helpful throughout our visit. Despite some small flaws, like a cramped ensuite bathroom and a few maintenance issues, the comfortable bed and spotless sheets made up for it. I would recommend this hotel for its character and exceptional value for money.

The Ancient Gatehouse is in a prime location right in the center of the city, making it the perfect base for exploring. You can't beat the view from the rooms, with some offering stunning views of the cathedral. The rooms themselves are cozy and comfortable, with attention to detail like four-poster beds and en suite bathrooms. Plus, breakfast is served with fabulous views of the Cathedral - definitely a great way to start the day.

The location of the hotel was absolutely stunning, with a magical view of the cathedral from my window. The staff at the hotel were delightful, always friendly and made me feel welcome. The dinner served at the Rugantino Restaurant was delicious and the modern bathroom was a nice touch. The charming decor added to the overall experience. I am already planning to return in October with my husband and our dogs.

Although the stairs were a bit challenging, being 70 years old, I managed fine. The soundproofing between rooms could be improved, but given that the building is hundreds of years old, it was understandable.

Great location, opposite a beautiful cathedral, with amazing food and friendly staff. Room 9 has a separate private bathroom and a spiral staircase. The four poster bed and cathedral view make the room extra special. Worth coming back for another stay.

our recent romantic stay in wells exceeded our expectations. the staff was incredibly friendly and the service was superb. the room was character-filled and the veggie breakfast was awesome. we will definitely be back for another wonderful experience.

The New Year's Eve location was ideal with great views of the surroundings. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The breakfast offering was good, and the restaurant had a nice atmosphere for dinner.

The hotel was a disappointment given its cost. The room was not cleaned properly, there was a lot of noise, and parking was a real issue.
