The location of the hotel was quite convenient, close to attractions like Ruby Falls and the aquarium which was a big plus for us. The room we got was spacious and had everything we needed for a night's stay. The pool was a hit with the kids, although I did find the smell of chemicals a bit overpowering. Now for the not-so-great parts - when we arrived at midnight, our first room hadn't been cleaned after the previous guest, which was a bit off-putting. The room we were given instead had a strong smell of cigarettes and cheap perfume, giving me a headache and a coughing fit. The cleanliness overall was a bit lacking, especially in the hallways which definitely needed a deep clean. I also had a bit of a strange encounter with the front desk staff during check-out. The card payment issue aside, the interaction wasn't the most pleasant, to say the least. It's never fun to feel like you're being accused of something you didn't do. All in all, La Quinta was an okay stay, not the worst but not the best either. Considering the price we paid, I might explore other options next time I'm in the area.
