Electricity options were limited, and the heating took an entire day to function properly. Dining on Christmas Day felt chaotic due to unprepared management. While the lobby was beautiful and the location ideal, the dated rooms and ongoing issues overshadowed the appeal. The potential for greatness exists here, but it requires urgent attention and improvements.

Wonderful location, friendly staff, and excellent breakfast!

The bed was very comfortable, allowing for restful nights. The room was large and clean, with a lovely view of the city and water. Temperature control was efficient, maintaining a pleasant atmosphere. the bathroom was quite small, with a very limited sink area and no exhaust fan. The safe had issues initially but was fixed quickly by maintenance. Quick room service was a plus, addressing minor concerns promptly. The location was superb, easily accessible to everything. Enjoyable breakfast in the Swampfox, with friendly staff made mornings brighter. Just a few shortcomings in functionality.

Great location but room issues

The Francis Marion Hotel boasts an excellent location, placing you right in the heart of Charleston’s vibrant attractions. my room left much to be desired—there were cleanliness issues and outdated amenities. Hopefully, management will address these concerns.

The bathroom was a real disaster. The tub was tiny and super slippery, making it feel unsafe, especially with how close the toilet was. Plus, waiting ages for hot water was just frustrating. Definitely a hazard for anyone with mobility issues.

The staff was attentive and brought us champagne and chocolate-covered strawberries for our anniversary. Room service was quick and the food was tasty; we felt pampered the whole time.

It was a bit pricey, but worth every penny for the experience.

Amazing spot, super close to everything you need in Charleston

I loved how everything I wanted to see in Charleston was just a short stroll away, with highlights like the Children's Museum of the Lowcountry, which is about 500 meters from the hotel, and the famous Rainbow Row, just almost 2 km away; I also appreciated the great restaurant on-site that served delicious breakfast, the comfortable clean room filled with beautiful antique pieces, and having a Starbucks right on the property for my morning caffeine fix, but the water pressure in the shower was a bit unreliable during peak times.

Upon arriving at Francis Marion, we were greeted by a lackluster receptionist at 10.00 pm. The rooms had a distinct old people's home smell and were dated and worn. The radiator was noisy, prompting a room change request. Surprisingly, there were no bathroom instructions, and I had to be shown how to operate the shower by pulling down the bath tap edges. The coffee/tea machine looked dirty and had to be replaced. The hotel's ambiance left much to be desired, and it felt like a major refurbishment was long overdue. The details in the room were lacking, and it seemed like maintenance was not a top priority. the location of the hotel was fantastic; within walking distance of the city's major attractions. As for the service, the staff's customer care skills were not up to par. A particular male receptionist lacked basic courtesy, which was disappointing. The staff seemed unprepared to handle even the simplest requests promptly. In retrospect, the stay at Francis Marion was underwhelming, with multiple issues that need to be addressed to provide a more comfortable and enjoyable experience.
