The California Inn in Barstow boasts a welcoming team who were incredibly responsive to our needs. The breakfast exceeded expectations with a variety of hot options, including waffles and eggs.

The hotel surprised me with its spaciousness and well-stocked breakfast—my kids loved the waffles and hot eggs. Staff interactions were variable; some were friendly, while one front desk employee was downright dismissive when I requested extra towels. Pet-friendly rooms were a plus, especially with a new puppy, and the area was decent for walks. A bit of a mixed bag—rooms had some issues, like a malfunctioning TV and faint odors, but the overall vibe was acceptable for a budget stay. Definitely room for improvement, especially in staff hospitality.

I was really put off by the bathroom situation. The motion sensor light kept flickering on and off at night, making it impossible to get a moment of peace without feeling like I was in a strobe light show. Super annoying!

This hotel is super easy to access right off the freeway and we found plenty of places to eat within a short walk, like a great Italian restaurant and other fast food spots, not to mention the fun attractions like the Western America Railroad Museum and Historic Barstow Main Street, both just a couple of kilometers away; the rooms were spacious and included comfy beds and a nice breakfast buffet, but the presence of a roach in the first room was a little off-putting and could definitely be improved.

My room was so spacious with a comfy bed and a nice fridge for our snacks on the road! The outdoor pool area was perfect for lounging, and we enjoyed meals at the picnic tables. The breakfast spread was plentiful, and the staff gave great local dining tips!

Omelets, made-to-order waffles, and a pleasant dining area made mornings enjoyable. Views of the desert were a lovely bonus. the hallway had a smokey odor and there were signs of deferred maintenance. A cockroach made an unwelcome appearance, and the shower had a noticeable leak. Noise from neighboring rooms and the street interrupted our rest, suggesting insulation improvements are necessary. Laundry facilities were inadequate, particularly when machines were in use. The staff were friendly and helpful, which made a difference, but it’s clear this property needs attention to elevate the experience.

The check-in experience was smooth, and the breakfast options were decent.

The staff treated guests poorly, showing blatant favoritism and making rude comments. The noise from the laundry room and outside made sleeping difficult.

However, the clean room and nice breakfast provided some comforts. Despite the unfriendly encounter with the man at the front desk, I appreciated the sheltered accommodations and comfortable bed. Overall, a decent stay.

The room was a decent size with a refrigerator, microwave, and coffee maker. The bed was made only with a sheet and bedspread, lacking a blanket. While the AC worked well, it made a strange noise throughout the night. I noticed a cockroach under the counter upon arrival, which was concerning. The showerhead leaked onto the ceiling. Although the room was dark enough, noise from the hallway and upstairs was intrusive. The guest toothbrush and toothpaste were a nice touch, but overall cleanliness could be improved. A basic breakfast was included, but the coffee was overly strong.

Wow, this hotel is a perfect pit stop between my road trip, right off the freeway. 🚗 The staff were exceptional, so friendly and helpful! the highlight was the amazing breakfast spread, sets you up for the day! only downside was the outdated room decor.
